Flowers work as a mood changer. When you receive flowers, your face instantly brightens with joy!  They are proven to improve your overall worse mood and lift spirits. This painting was inspired by two of my favorite flowers, Hydrangeas and Tulips.  But then all flowers are usually my favorites!

This painting was painted as a study piece before a Floral Art Workshop last summer.  I wanted to showcase a beautiful arrangement of flowers in a stone vase, using gestural strokes and impressionistic approach.  I started painting the outline on top of a red wash, and then once dry started layering paint to achieve volume and texture.  Glazing thin washes on the vase added sheen and a variety of colour.  The background was painted last to incorporate some of the colours of the flowers into the background providing harmony in the overall look.
