Hydrangeas always have been such a delight!  Their varieties are endless and their beauty as cut flowers last a long time.  It for me is a symbol of summer and endless gatherings, perhaps because it is a popular flower to wedding bouquets.  I painted this painting based on the blue hydrangeas in our front yard. They are so bold and beautiful and I wanted to bring their beauty inside the home especially throughout the winter months to remind me that spring will be on their way.

This painting is an acrylic on an 8" x 8" canvas board.  A red wash was applied beforehand, then an outline was painted all over the board with pastel pencil.  Once happy with the composition, a red acrylic was painted on the outline and series of acrylic paint was applied in fast gestural passes to create each flower.  Thick and random strokes where applied to the background to provide texture, and splashes of fluid white acrylic paint finishes off the piece with spark of light!
