Flowers always bring a smile to my heart.  They are a symbol of hope, of joy and comfort.  No matter what season, when you bring in flowers to your space, it provides a feeling of hope and happiness.  This painting was painted live in front of my students via zoom, last year during the first Covid lockdown.  It was the first time, I did a demo virtually and it went smoothly.  The workshop was 2 hours and I had the painting almost finished by then.  I took another few hours to continue finishing the painting and just fell in love with its vibrant spirit and spontaneity!

This painting is an acrylic on canvas board.  A red wash was applied beforehand, then an outline was painted all over the board with chalk pastel pencil.  Once happy with the composition, a red acrylic was painted on the outline and series of acrylic paint was applied in fast gestural passes to create each flower.  Glazes of thin washes where applied to the background and pallete knife work was added towards the end of the painting to provide texture.
